OUTLINE
The Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture, founded in 1925, is Japan’s first academic association for landscape architecture, with the aim of building a modern theoretical and scientific system on the technology and culture accumulated by the traditional profession of landscape architecture. Today, the association has approximately 2,200 members and its activities cover a very wide range of fields.
On the other hand, today’s wide-ranging and complex environmental problems require a comprehensive approach based on a reorganisation of the conventional academic system and on collaboration with related sciences aiming at environmental creation.
The society is made up of an extremely broad and diverse membership, ranging from university researchers and administrative officials from the national and local governments to practitioners working for private consultants and design firms. Through the activities of these members, it is hoped that the society will lead the way in the coming era of landscape research by enabling academic exchange on issues from a variety of perspectives, information exchange and joint research.
